Children's Org. Monday- The Laura Recovery Center

I did not forget my goal to blog children's organizations every Monday! It's been a hell of a day, with FINALLY learning new things in Spanish class and being told I am a child abuser for being a working mother, and ending with CPR and first Aid class (thank God for CPR and first aid teachers that can also be stand up comics the whole time- I would not have survived that class if she didn't have us in stitches like she did.)

The Laura Recovery Center's main objective is to serve as an extra helping hand in the event of a missing child. The reason why their main page states largely and boldly NOT to wait to call 911 if your child is missing is because in Ye Olden Days, there was a law that said you could *not* report a missing child for at least 24 hours. Little Johnny was probably out hunting frogs somewhere and Barney Fife had better things to do! Luckily, parents and other advocates worked hard to overturn that law. The rumor/belief still persists that it is still a law, and education is still needed that you need to call authorities *immediately*.

"Mission Statement: The LAURA RECOVERY CENTER exists to prevent abductions and runaways and to recover missing children by fostering a Triangle of Trust among law enforcement, community and a missing child's family."

Who was Laura?

The Laura Recovery Center's website also has great information in layman's terms about the Texas laws surrounding child abductions. They include laws on harboring runaways and parental abductions. It's always good to find summaries of laws in pain English. Not all of us can speak Law.
